About the position

The Capital Budget & Control Consultant at UChicago Medicine plays a crucial role in managing and analyzing capital budgets within a world-class academic healthcare system. This position involves remote work with occasional travel to the Hyde Park campus, focusing on financial reporting, budget variance analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure accurate capital project management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Manager, Capital Budget in creating and analyzing monthly and ad hoc reporting on capital projects.
  • Utilize tools to provide updates on current and forecasted project spend to budget.
  • Identify budget variances, reconcile data, investigate causes, and advise on options for allocating capital.
  • Partner with project stakeholders to understand project(s) status and inform leadership through reporting.
  • Collaborate with FPD&C to review, monitor and report on projects and maintain eBuilder for accurate reporting.
  • Work with the Manager, Capital Budget and other Departments to assess and process changes and enhancements needed to support high value work.
  • Independently prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc capital financial reports ensuring integrity and accuracy of financial data.
  • Investigate and resolve problems relating to monthly and ad hoc reconciliations.
  • Assist with the annual audit of financial records and systems as needed.
  • Prepare monthly or ad hoc reconciliations with medium to high degree of difficulty.
  • Conduct periodic review of current capital accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports for monthly capital review meetings.
  • Staff capital meetings and prepare reports to inform capital decisions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure capital payments are processed correctly and all required documentation is collected prior to payment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in capital finance, budgeting, or financial administration.
  • Strong understanding of capital accounting principles and processes.
  • Proficiency in financial management tools, including Oracle and eBuilder.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with various stakeholders.
