About the position

The Consultant, Climate Resilience position at WSP USA is a full-time role focused on supporting the company's Resilience Services Practice and Climate, Resilience and Sustainability team. The consultant will analyze climate and environmental data, utilize geospatial tools for data visualization, and conduct research to define climate impacts on infrastructure and communities. The role involves collaboration with a diverse team of experts to develop resilience strategies and plans for clients facing climate-related hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and develop technical workflows for analyzing environmental data, including downscaled climate model output.
  • Provide quantitative analysis of exposure, vulnerability, risks, and resilience associated with long-term climate change considerations.
  • Prepare documentation summarizing methodologies and results for technical and lay audiences.
  • Participate on multiple projects, delivering on project commitments through effective coordination with internal colleagues and external partners.
  • Contribute to a diverse team of experts working to advance the Resilience Services Practice through data-driven analysis and decision-making.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience with tools and workflows for effective data visualization of environmental data.
  • Experience with coding projects in Python, adapting scripts and programs written by colleagues.
  • Proficiency with Python libraries such as NumPy, xarray, xclim, dask, and zarr.
  • Familiarity with geospatial processing tools like GDAL, QGIS, ArcGIS, and Google Earth Engine.
  • Proven capabilities for technical project delivery.
  • Experience communicating technical analysis and results to non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate degree in a related field.
  • Experience working on climate data for hazard and impact analyses.
  • Experience analyzing impacts to assets and communities from climate-related hazards.
  • Experience with high-performance computing and parallel processing in cloud environments.
  • Proficiency in version control systems like Git and GitHub.
