About the position

The Consultant Engineer II position at FM involves working with a diverse group of clients, primarily in the chemical industry, to assess and mitigate risks associated with property hazards. The role requires a strong engineering background to evaluate various industrial facility hazards and develop risk improvement strategies. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and development through hands-on experience and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Identify property hazards at insured client facilities and deliver practical solutions to minimize or eliminate the hazard.
  • Communicate key risks and priorities to support clients in making sound risk management decisions.
  • Apply consistent risk assessment and risk mitigation guidance based on FM Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets and company operating procedures.
  • Prepare technical engineering reports documenting conclusions with sound engineering-based judgments and decisions.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management, and Underwriting on risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop long-lasting relationships with clients and act as a trusted advisor and consultant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (various engineering disciplines considered); a chemical engineering background is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in heavy industry, preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on understanding of various chemical and mechanical production processes and support systems.
  • Experience in process safety practices and safety devices.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, geared towards a consulting role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with sprinkler protection systems.
  • Experience with process hazard analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) processes and automatic fire protection systems.
