About the position

As a Consultant in the Finance and Internal Audit department at Nationwide, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the integrity and operational efficiency of our financial systems. You will be responsible for consulting and delivering changes to the financial systems environment, focusing on complex impact analysis related to business rules, reference data, reporting, and allocations. Your expertise will be crucial in providing operational support for Finance back office processes, systems, and reports, ensuring that our financial data is accurate, credible, and relevant for our business partners. In this role, you will consult with Finance business partners to analyze, design, implement, and operationalize solutions that uphold the integrity of Nationwide's financial data. You will lead complex financial projects, coordinating with various business units and the Office of Finance to deliver projects according to established guidelines, budgets, and strategic focuses. Your responsibilities will also include managing financial data elements owned by Finance Data Governance, ensuring compliance with established standards, and providing oversight of the Finance data model. You will perform complex data analysis related to financial activities, identifying root causes for data quality issues and recommending effective solutions. As a team lead, you will provide operational support, recommend financial controls, and assist in audit processes. Your role will require advanced communication skills, as you will interact with a wide variety of audiences, conduct training sessions, and maintain relationships with key business partners. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the lower 48 U.S. states, and is ideal for candidates who are passionate about delivering extraordinary care and driving financial excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with Finance business partners to analyze, design, implement, and operationalize solutions ensuring the integrity of financial data.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate complex financial projects for business units and the Office of Finance, delivering on all aspects according to guidelines and budget.
  • Lead impact analysis and manage financial data elements owned by Finance Data Governance, supporting data governance applications.
  • Ensure changes to Finance data flows follow the established approval framework and enforce standards around Finance data architecture.
  • Provide operational support for Finance back office processes, systems, and reports, recommending and maintaining financial controls.
  • Perform complex data analysis related to financial activity, identifying root causes for data quality issues and recommending solutions.
  • Exhibit expertise in the design, development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of business processes and procedures.
  • Partner with business units and Nationwide Technology in documenting planning solutions, serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with various audiences, exhibiting advanced presentation and facilitation skills, and conduct training for business partners.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate studies in business, accounting, mathematics, computer science, management information systems, or a related field, with comparable work experience preferred.
  • Eight years of progressive experience in planning, designing, and implementing enterprise-wide business transformation initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in functional, process, information, and data modeling, data management and warehousing, and applications integration.
  • In-depth experience with process re-design methods and tools.
  • Strong accounting/finance background with skills in process management, continuous improvement, project management, and consulting.
  • Experience with interfaces, reference data, reporting, allocations, and understanding of SQL and other programming languages.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn and use new software and common desktop tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data governance applications and industry practices for data management.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and Access for data analysis.
  • Leadership skills and competencies in managing complex projects.
