About the position

The Consultant, Financial II position at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is designed to support the organization in various aspects of financial and operational performance management. This role is pivotal in providing management with critical information that influences decision-making and promotes fiscal discipline. The consultant will work closely with management and senior staff to enhance transparency around financial and operational performance, ensuring that all levels of management have access to the necessary data to make informed decisions. The consultant will be responsible for measuring, monitoring, and reporting on key factors such as cost, effort, and scope against established business plans. This includes highlighting any factors that could lead to unapproved scope and cost inflation. The role encompasses a wide range of accountabilities, including maintaining the integrity of financial statements, ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls, and providing technical accounting guidance. Additionally, the consultant will engage in financial and operational performance reporting, annual business plan development, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, cost management, and capital project planning. The position also involves business system development and integration, as well as system and process improvements. The consultant will be expected to actively develop and foster relationships within the team and with business partners, analyze financial reports and cost data, and provide management with insights that drive effective decision-making. Participation in special projects and initiatives as requested is also a key aspect of this role, along with the continuous development of skills to work independently as a financial consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity of the financial statements and a Sarbanes-Oxley control environment.
  • Improve financial and business acumen by seeking personal education and reviewing business information and technical documents.
  • Support and influence the development and review of budgets and business planning activities.
  • Support and influence the development and review of monthly forecast and savings/use.
  • Actively develop and foster relationships within the team and with business partner(s).
  • Analyze financial reports and cost data to influence outcomes for the achievement of business objectives.
  • Provide management with financial and operational insight to drive effective decision making.
  • Participate on special projects and initiatives as requested.
  • Refine skills to work independently as a financial consultant.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in accounting or finance.
  • 2 years of experience in financial management, business systems, and controls.
  • A CPA is preferred, and continued professional development to obtain professional certifications is expected.
  • Must have working knowledge of general business, financial systems and controls, computer skills, and financial analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Strong commitment to building teamwork and conveying mission, objective, expectations, and philosophy.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is desirable.
