About the position

The Budget Consultant position at the Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review is responsible for preparing policy and fiscal analyses, tracking state budget issues, and providing timely information to Senate leadership and committee members. The role requires effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders, including legislative staff and state government representatives, to support the committee's objectives in budget management and policy development.

Responsibilities

• Prepare written policy and fiscal analyses.
• Track state budget issues and legislation across various policy areas.
• Provide timely and accurate information to the Chair and Senate leadership.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with legislative staff and state government representatives.
• Draft Committee and Subcommittee agendas and analyses.
• Vet and negotiate budget issues.
• Present policy rationale to the Chair and committee members.
• Organize budget Subcommittee, oversight, and informational hearings.
• Staff budget trailer bills and contribute to Committee reports.
• Prepare speaking points for the Chair.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
• Three years of relevant experience in budget policy and analysis.
• Familiarity with the legislative and budget committee process.
• Ability to maintain a high level of analytical proficiency.
• Strong programmatic expertise in relevant policy areas is desirable.
• Ability to manage a substantial workload under strict deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in general government programs is desirable.
• Demonstrated initiative and creativity in developing recommendations.
