About the position

The Consultant, Urban Planning position at WSP involves providing technical planning assistance and guidance for urban development projects. The role focuses on capturing, modeling, and analyzing geographical and spatial data to inform land use and urban development plans, considering economic, social, and environmental impacts. The consultant will engage in various tasks including preparing plans, zoning code updates, and facilitating public involvement, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical planning assistance and guidance for urban development projects.
  • Collect and analyze observational, spatial, and environmental data for various projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of general plans, specific/master plans, and zoning codes.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements and statistical analysis.
  • Conduct investigations, inspections, and surveys to gather information on land use and development.
  • Prepare data visualizations and reports for project presentations.
  • Assist in the zoning entitlement process and represent clients in local jurisdictions.
  • Facilitate public involvement meetings and address public inquiries.
  • Draft technical memos, meeting minutes, and other written materials summarizing research findings.
  • Analyze data from field investigations to develop action plans for development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in land/urban planning, including engagement in zoning code updates and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective analytical skills and experience with research techniques.
  • Knowledge of zoning laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience with software such as CAD, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
