About the position

The Consulting Application Engineer at HCA Healthcare plays a pivotal role in the Development Solutions department, focusing on leading development efforts and ensuring the effective adoption and use of technology. This position is not only about technical expertise but also involves consulting on both internal and external development initiatives to guarantee high code quality and robust architecture. As a leadership role, the Consulting Application Engineer is responsible for the success of projects and the professional growth of team members. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for the development team, engaging with business partners across various levels, from technical staff to executive leadership, to align IT capabilities with business needs. In this role, the Consulting Application Engineer will engage in strategic enterprise planning, ensuring that IT software capabilities, policies, and standards are in sync with the evolving business landscape. The engineer will take a lead role in development teams, providing guidance on software architecture and design decisions while also mentoring junior developers. This position requires direct collaboration with business partners to design and implement software solutions that effectively address business challenges. The responsibilities extend to managing large IT and business initiatives, leading evaluations, negotiations, and RFPs for software development in accordance with IT&S guidelines. The engineer will also be involved in hands-on development, adhering to HCA standards and procedures, and maintaining code and version control through tools like GitHub. The role encompasses managing development projects from inception through to implementation, utilizing a variety of technologies including Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET, T-SQL, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, and frameworks like Angular and React. Additionally, the engineer will conduct unit testing and participate in peer code reviews, providing advanced troubleshooting support to other development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development efforts and ensure code quality and sound architecture.
  • Interface with business partners to design and implement software solutions.
  • Guide development teams on software architecture and design decisions.
  • Manage development projects from inception to implementation.
  • Conduct evaluations, negotiations, and RFPs for software development.
  • Perform development using HCA standards and maintain code control through GitHub.
  • Complete unit testing and participate in peer code reviews.
  • Provide advanced software development troubleshooting to other teams.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of experience with software development, architecture, and delivery.
  • Proven record of leadership in software development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in C# .NET Development and ASP.NET MVC.
  • Ability to create, maintain, and performance-tune MS SQL queries.
  • Experience with JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, CSS, AJAX, Angular, and React.
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architectures principles.
  • Ability to work effectively within deadlines and with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Data Modeling.
  • Familiarity with SDLC management through Team Foundation Server and/or GitHub.
