About the position

The Consulting Software Engineer at HCA Healthcare is responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions within the Data Products and Engineering organization. This role involves consulting on design and development, ensuring efficient data engineering practices, and advocating for continuous improvement in software development and delivery. The engineer will work closely with various stakeholders to build scalable healthcare technology and support patient care initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on development commitments from start to finish for all aspects of the Data Products and Engineering organization.
  • Consult on design and development of data engineering work to source data and perform feature engineering for data science and machine learning applications.
  • Quickly learn, maintain, and improve existing solutions as well as design new ones.
  • Provide key problem resolutions for production systems as needed.
  • Strategically design, construct, and implement software in a software development environment.
  • Act as a technical expert within AT and project integrations, including requirements gathering, design, development, and testing.
  • Produce high quality, modular, reusable code that incorporates coding best practices.
  • Design and execute DevOps strategies and processes, driving change management for transformative solutions.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities and provide after hours/on-call support as needed.
  • Mentor other engineers and direct the performance of programming assignments within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud development technologies, especially Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL required.
  • Experience in data engineering including architecture for ingesting, transforming, and feature engineering data elements.
  • Deep understanding of streaming and event-driven architectures.
  • Extensive experience with container-based platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Cloud Run.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with healthcare data and technology is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, and Lean Product Development methodologies.
