About the position

The Consumer & Community Horticulture Program Manager at NC State University is responsible for leading the development and direction of the Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox and the online learning program. This role involves managing an advisory team, conducting needs assessments, developing marketing strategies, and overseeing program finances. The manager will also create and curate content for the plant database, develop online courses, and support the horticulture team in establishing a flagship program.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and manage an advisory team of stakeholders.
  • Conduct a needs assessment, including surveying Extension Agents, Extension Master Gardener volunteers, and other horticulture programs.
  • Review existing offerings and adapt based on findings.
  • Develop marketing strategies for the program.
  • Manage and report finances related to the program.
  • Evaluate and report impacts, present at conferences, and publish academic articles.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support program initiatives.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to the program.
  • Create, integrate, and curate content for the Plant Toolbox.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for the program.
  • Ensure quality assurance for program content.
  • Develop and teach online courses on Moodle and Top Hat platforms.
  • Manage course registration through the NC State REPORTER system.
  • Explore creating an informal alumnae group for ongoing support and marketing options.
  • Support the consumer and community horticulture team.

Requirements

  • Post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree with equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in consumer horticulture and botany.
  • Experience working effectively with students, volunteers, staff, and faculty.
  • Proven team and program leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and manage programs effectively.
  • Proficient in developing and facilitating online learning programs using Moodle and Top Hat.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to integrity and accountability in serving as a partner to the Extension Specialist.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Competent in database management and technological tools.
  • Strong customer service skills.
