We are currently seeking Consumer Direct Underwriters to join our rapidly growing Operations team. The ideal candidate will possess at least three to five years of experience underwriting home equity or mortgage loans in a direct-to-consumer or third-party originations environment. A strong candidate will have a solid understanding of mortgage processes and proficient knowledge of loan origination technology, thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be driven, passionate, and capable of flourishing in an operational role that is extensive and dynamic.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly analyze loan applications to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, company policies, and guidelines.
  • Review and analyze borrower's credit, income, assets, and collateral to determine eligibility.
  • Communicate loan decisions with applicable parties.
  • Maintain knowledge of all guidelines established by the organization.
  • Ensure all regulatory compliance is completed as directed by management.
  • Offer loan solutions and counteroffers to customers when necessary.
  • Handle loan escalations in a timely manner.
  • Properly handle loan sale and/or delivery issues.
  • Identify red flags and potential misrepresentation.
  • Work closely with sales and operation partners through the life cycle of the loan.
  • May be required to train and develop underwriting staff.
  • Assist Management on projects or special programs as needed.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
  • 3-5 years of underwriting home equity or mortgage loans in a direct-to-consumer or third-party originations environment.
  • Proficiency in evaluating complex income streams, including personal and business tax returns.
  • Advanced knowledge of Conventional guidelines.
  • Applied knowledge of underwriting fundamentals and standard industry practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong data analysis skills.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize work.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
