About the position

The Consumer Lender II at Collegiate Peaks Bank is responsible for originating a high volume of consumer loans and managing the entire loan origination process. This role involves underwriting loans, analyzing financials, and providing support to the Consumer Loan Manager. The position requires extensive interaction with customers, vendors, and bank staff, emphasizing professionalism and efficiency throughout the loan process.

Responsibilities

  • Originate a high volume of consumer loans and manage the loan origination process.
  • Underwrite HELOCs and other consumer products, ensuring compliance with lending requirements.
  • Approve, decline, or counteroffer loan applications within set lending authority.
  • Gather financial information for underwriting and prepare personal cashflow worksheets.
  • Evaluate repayment ability, collateral adequacy, and analyze credit reports.
  • Communicate loan decisions clearly and courteously, including discussing loan denials and alternatives.
  • Identify and develop new customer relationships while maintaining existing ones.
  • Meet or exceed annual loan production goals set by the manager.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and conduct application interviews and loan closings.
  • Order and review loan documents for accuracy and compliance with requirements.
  • Attend loan committee meetings and provide structural feedback.
  • Monitor loan maturities and assist with collection efforts.
  • Register with NMLS and maintain compliance with SAFE Act requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.
  • Participate in community and bank-sponsored activities.

Requirements

  • Three to five years' experience as a lender and underwriting as a consumer lender.
  • Three to five years' of banking experience.
  • High level computer skills with knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to apply logical or critical thinking to define problems and draw conclusions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with complex self-employed income and understanding of tax returns and financial statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
