About the position

Are you looking for an opportunity to help others and let your skills shine? Do you want to work for a company that believes in helping others and doing the right thing? Join the Copper State CU family! Our mission is to elevate the financial strength of Arizona families through financial empowerment. We are a full-service financial institution aimed at helping our local Arizona community. As a credit union, we are a not-for-profit financial cooperative, owned and operated by members we serve. This separates us from most for-profit financial institutions. With approximately 140 employees we are large enough to help everyone, while being small enough to provide growth opportunities. This provides opportunities to contribute to the organization in ways that most don't for larger institutions. We value the contributions of our employees and actively look for ways to collaborate within all levels of the company. At Copper State Credit Union, you will have the opportunity to put your unique skills to work, and contribute to a company that wants to see you succeed. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter you will be responsible for prudent lending while representing the financial interests of both the members and the credit union, including timely turnaround of applications from various origination channels. You will review, analyze, and underwrite applications for personal, auto, and home equity loans within credit union and regulatory guidelines. You will explain and document rationale behind credit decisions, examine credit reports, income statements, tax returns, and other documents to evaluate borrower's risk. You will make decisions on loan approvals, denials, or conditions based on established guidelines and risk thresholds. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, you will stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations related to consumer lending. You will act as a point of contact for originators and consumer processing teams, collaborating with other employees and vendors to obtain necessary information and clarify any discrepancies. As a subject matter expert on consumer lending products and underwriting guidelines, you will provide guidance to staff and build and maintain relationships with internal staff and external vendors to support consumer lending needs.
