About the position

Join Kellogg Community Credit Union as a Consumer Underwriter at our Second St. branch! In this role, you will be responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of loan applicants and making decisions to approve or deny a variety of consumer loan applications with considerable loan authority. Your primary focus will be to analyze financial and credit information provided by applicants to determine their ability to repay the loan, while also promoting credit union products and services. As a Consumer Underwriter, you will review consumer and indirect loan requests, recommending approval or denial based on your assessments. You will determine the appropriate loan amount, interest rate, and terms based on the applicant's creditworthiness. This will involve calculating income and reviewing personal and business tax returns to ensure a thorough evaluation of each application. Additionally, you will identify collateral needs and payment plans for members applying for loans, assisting in compliance and interpretation of supporting documentation. You will handle loans of varying complexity, value, and risk, and will communicate with loan officers to resolve any questions regarding applicant information, collateral information, and loan decisions. Preparing files for closing will also be part of your responsibilities. Staying current on industry trends, regulatory changes, consumer loan guidelines, and best practices in consumer lending is essential. You will collaborate on rate changes as needed and ensure that all Credit Union policies and procedures are in place and followed, advising on compliance and documentation issues. Building and maintaining a courteous and professional relationship with both internal and external members is crucial to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • One to Three years similar or related experience with a proven track record of handling complex cases
  • Ability to review and analyze personal and business tax returns
  • Ability to analyze consumer credit reports
  • Knowledge of consumer lending regulations, terms and practices preferred
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk effectively
  • Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Suite
  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent time management skills
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral
  • Ability to interact with others on a regular basis and build relationships
