About the position

The Contact Representative (Benefits Coordinator) position at the Northern Navajo Medical Center is primarily responsible for identifying patients eligible for alternate resources and assisting them with the enrollment process. This role involves a variety of patient representative functions, including application completion, home and hospital visits, and providing information on rights and benefits related to alternate resources. The incumbent will work closely with patients to ensure they receive the necessary support and advocacy in navigating healthcare resources.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in applications for and use of alternate resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs.
  • Identify all available alternate resources for patients.
  • Perform patient representative functions including application completion and home/hospital visits.
  • Arrange transportation for patients as needed.
  • Interpret rules and regulations for alternate resources for patients.
  • Follow up on all pending applications and assist patients in establishing and verifying eligibility for alternate resources.
  • Provide information on rights and benefits of resources and advise patients of non-payment or denial of claims.
  • Intervene on patients' behalf in disputing denials by third-party sources.
  • Interview patients and family members to obtain pertinent registration information.
  • Assist patients in completing new or updated forms for the Patient Registration System.

Requirements

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service for GS-06 grade level.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service for GS-07 grade level.
  • Experience in interviewing patients or their representatives to identify problems related to care.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, or services to explain to patients using medical or administrative knowledge.
  • Ability to coordinate communication between patients, family members, medical staff, and regulatory agencies.
