About the position

The Container Shop Manager at Republic Services is responsible for supervising a team of employees engaged in the repair and maintenance of various sizes of containers and compactors. This role ensures that all repairs meet company standards and may act as the manager-on-duty in the absence of higher management. The position involves organizing work schedules, training employees, overseeing quality control, and managing administrative tasks related to the container shop's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees performing container shop activities, including hiring decisions, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Organizes and schedules work based on historical and anticipated needs.
  • Develops work schedules and grants time off to match staffing level requirements.
  • Reviews work orders and assigns tasks to container shop employees.
  • Verifies the quality of work performed and coaches staff on techniques and procedures.
  • Oversees administrative matters including payroll, production records, and budget preparation.
  • Conducts regular facility audits and maintains communication with other departments.
  • Interacts with customers to address issues related to compactor equipment.
  • Inspects containers and equipment to ensure safety and productivity procedures are followed.
  • Identifies training opportunities and documents issues for improvement.
  • Procures necessary equipment and parts within budget constraints.
  • Monitors and controls the container shop's operational performance and reports on performance to leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on welding and fabrication shop experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory or progressively responsible experience in a lead role.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance and environmental quality standards.
  • Effective communication skills and a customer service orientation.
  • Ability to promote ethical behavior and anticipate business needs.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain records and schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage employee engagement.
  • Thorough knowledge of safe working practices and ability to enforce safety rules.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others and address performance issues.
