About the position

The Contamination Control Engineer 1 position at United Launch Alliance (ULA) is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the analysis, design, and integration of Vulcan missions. This role is crucial in ensuring that contamination control requirements are met for launch vehicle systems, supporting ULA's mission to save lives, explore the universe, and connect the world. The position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative team environment focused on innovation and excellence in the aerospace industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develops launch vehicle system contamination control requirements consistent with mission needs and ensures implementation and verification of requirements across the organization including production and launch operations.
  • Performs analyses of launch vehicle molecular and particulate contamination sources, transport and deposition onto payload surfaces.
  • Develops requirements for contamination-critical hardware molecular and particulate cleanliness and develops contamination control operational requirements consistent with achieving and maintaining required cleanliness levels.
  • Articulates the contamination control program via written and oral communications across the organization and with the external customer community.
  • Periodic travel to the launch sites and Factory is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Training and/or Coursework in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to solve difficult problems by applying basic engineering/scientific principles and concepts.
  • Interpersonal skills to operate independently and work well with others in a small team environment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel when required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Understanding of non-metallic material property testing and compatibility.
  • Exposure to instrumental analysis, contamination control, and various computer programs.
  • Experience with GC, FTIR, microscope, wet chemistry, and Karl Fisher titration methodologies.
  • Experience with molecular and particulate contamination source, transport and deposition phenomena and techniques for analysis.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop, AutoCAD, MATHCAD software.
  • Experience with particle and molecular contamination sampling and monitoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with standard testing techniques (e.g.: ASTM E-595, ASTM-E-1559, ASTM-E-1216, ASTM-E-1235).
  • Experience with aerospace (spacecraft and/or launch system) contamination control processes.
