About the position

The Managing Editor at Kapwing is a crucial role responsible for overseeing the Kapwing Resources library, setting the editorial direction, maintaining high-quality standards, and ensuring timely content delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in digital media, social media trends, and editorial SEO, and will be both a content creator and a strategic manager, passionate about empowering video creators.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, write for, and manage the library.
  • Plan and approve assignments for writers and editors, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Hire, coach, and supervise writers and editors.
  • Collaborate with Kapwing's CEO to determine content and topics for the library based on customer understanding and SEO.
  • Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Establish standards for guest writers.
  • Analyze performance metrics to quantify results and optimize content for traffic, engagement, and growth.
  • Implement best practices, workflows, tools, and templates to maximize publishing efficiency.
  • Manage the YouTube channel manager and oversee the quality of work produced on Kapwing's YouTube channel.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (5+) as a journalist or managing editor, preferably within a media company covering digital media and social media trends.
  • Has hired, trained, and managed more than 10 people (contractors or full-time) in the last two years.
  • Skilled at interviewing and coaching writers and video producers.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong understanding of SEO concepts.
  • Passion for and interest in AI, new technologies, Ghost, and SEO keyword research platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate people and operations effectively.
  • High attention to detail and reliability.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-depth knowledge of digital media and social media trends.
  • Experience growing a newsletter, YouTube channel, or social media account from scratch.
  • Highly experienced with editorial SEO and content optimization.
  • BSc/BA in journalism or a relevant field.
