About the position

The Content Marketing Specialist at Indiana University is a pivotal role within the Kelley School of Business's marketing team, which is part of the broader Content Strategy team at the university. This position is designed for a talented storyteller who excels in writing for both print and digital media, with the primary goal of developing engaging content that aligns with the university's enterprise content strategy and branding guidelines. The specialist will be responsible for ideating, writing, and editing high-impact marketing content that resonates with the target audiences of the Kelley School, ensuring that all materials are clear, engaging, and effective in achieving marketing goals. In this role, the Content Marketing Specialist will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including design teams, customer relations management (CRM) teams, and marketing strategy teams, to bring projects from concept to completion. This includes managing and publishing content in the university's content management system, fact-checking, proofreading, and editing materials to maintain high standards of quality and compliance with content guidelines. The specialist will also be expected to keep up with trends in copywriting and content development, ensuring that the content produced is not only relevant but also innovative and impactful. The position requires independent development and execution of strategic marketing plans, which may involve data collection, market research, and the creation of promotional materials. The Content Marketing Specialist will also manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and support in curating marketing plans for various initiatives and programs. This role is essential for advancing the goals and objectives of the Kelley School of Business and enhancing the overall brand reputation of Indiana University.

Responsibilities

  • Ideates, writes, and edits relevant, high-impact copy and marketing content that align with Indiana University's enterprise content strategy and overall branding guidelines.
  • Writes and edits clear, engaging marketing copy and content for Kelley print and digital media and various channels.
  • Understands and implements IU's enterprise content strategy to effectively reach Kelley's target audiences and achieve marketing goals.
  • Fact checks, proofreads, and edits content to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Coordinates with design, CRM, and marketing strategy teams to bring projects from concept to completion.
  • Collaborates closely with Kelley clients and a team of creative professionals including content writers, designers, video producers, and social media managers.
  • Optimizes content through editing and repurposing existing materials.
  • Manages and publishes content in IU's content management system.
  • Helps maintain IU and Kelley's content standards, style guides, compliance, and voice and tone.
  • Manages and implements feedback from stakeholders.
  • Keeps up with copywriting and content development trends.
  • Independently develops and executes strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors.
  • Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in marketing channels.
  • May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across projects.
  • Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content in multiple formats.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrates experience writing copy or creating content for a variety of media and channels.
  • Experience distilling complex information into compelling, accessible content.
  • Experience in brand or admissions marketing.
  • Knowledge of the higher education landscape.
  • Experience independently researching and interviewing subject matter experts.
