About the position

The Content Strategist and Writer will play a crucial role in telling the stories that highlight the YMCA's mission and impact. This position involves conceptualizing, creating, and crafting content across various platforms including video, email, social media, and print collateral. The role requires collaboration with the marketing team to develop innovative ideas and execute content strategies that drive traffic, generate leads, and enhance online fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, create, and craft content for various programs and services.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop innovative ideas and content.
  • Develop and execute content strategies to drive traffic and generate leads.
  • Determine the best formats for communicating different types of content.
  • Write and produce significant communication pieces for targeted audiences.
  • Create and post social media content using Loomly.
  • Edit website content and schedule changes for campaigns.
  • Maintain cohesive visual identity and oversee brand standards.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies for brochures and collateral.
  • Develop creative and design best practices.
  • Collaborate with Videographer/Editor for creative alignment.
  • Produce storyboards and direct video shoots with Videographer/Editor.
  • Travel to secondary locations as needed for program objectives.
  • Identify stories and content with YMCA branches to align with mission.
  • Manage multiple editing projects under tight deadlines.
  • Engage with staff, members, volunteers, and donors for storytelling.
  • Promote inclusivity and participation among all demographics.
  • Organize files for easy collaboration with the team.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and community needs.
  • Adhere to established YMCA brand standards.
  • Uphold the YMCA mission and demonstrate its values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3-4 years of proven experience in writing and producing content, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous projects is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media scheduling tools.
  • Strong visual storytelling abilities.
  • Experience managing outside vendors and agencies.
  • Proven editing and proofreading experience with excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Understanding of social media platforms and best practices.
  • Creative thinking and self-starter attitude.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro).
  • Ability to storyboard, plan, and direct video content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Good technical understanding and ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to think and act independently based on organizational priorities.
  • Strong team member with a focus on customer service.
