The Content Strategist and Writer at YMCA of Greater Louisville plays a crucial role in communicating the organization's mission and impact through various content formats. This position involves collaboration with the marketing team to create engaging content for marketing materials, social media, emails, and videos, aimed at increasing member growth, engagement, and retention. The role requires a strong ability to analyze user engagement metrics and adapt content strategies accordingly, ensuring effective storytelling that resonates with the community.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, create, and craft content for a wide variety of programs and services for video, email, stories, social media, website, and print collateral.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop innovative ideas; create and write content for continued storytelling work.
  • Develop and execute content strategies that drive traffic, generate leads for membership and programs, and grow online fundraising presence.
  • Determine which formats best communicate various types of content, identifying ways to increase brand awareness, and conducting keyword research.
  • Write and produce significant communication pieces understanding what audience is to be reached with what message.
  • Write social media content and post on social media channels using Loomly.
  • Edit website content and schedule page changes for campaign launches.
  • Maintain a cohesive visual identity, maintain Y-USA branding guidelines, and oversee brand standards Association-wide.
  • Work with outside agencies when needed to coordinate brochures, collateral, and direct mail.
  • Develop creative and design best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Videographer/Editor to ensure creative alignment and adherence to strategic objectives.
  • Produce storyboards, scout talent, conduct interviews, and direct video shoots with Videographer/Editor.
  • Travel to secondary locations as identified with program objectives.
  • Collaborate with YMCA branches to identify stories and content to align with the organization's mission and community goals.
  • Juggle multiple editing projects under tight deadlines.
  • Engage with staff, members, volunteers, and donors to get the perfect story/angle.
  • Foster a sense of community by promoting inclusivity and participation among all demographics.
  • Maintain files in an organized and logical way to easily collaborate with the team.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, tools, best practices, and local community needs.
  • Adhere to established YMCA brand standards.
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Marketing, or a related field is required (or equivalent experience).
  • Three to four (3-4) years of proven experience in writing and producing content, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous projects (required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media scheduling.
  • Strong visual storytelling abilities.
  • Experience working with and managing outside vendors and agencies.
  • Proven editing and proofreading experience; must have excellent spelling and grammatical skills.
  • Understanding of social media platforms (FB, IG, YT, TT) and best practices for stories, reels, and feed posts.
  • Creative thinking and self-starter.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro).
  • Ability to storyboard, plan, and direct video content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Creative sense that thrives across a variety of genres including web, social media, and email.
  • Must be able to handle and meet multiple deadlines and possess strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Good technical understanding and demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Perform problem analysis and resolution at strategic and functional levels in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to think and act independently based on established organizational priorities.
  • Strong ability to function as a team-member, with a strong focus on customer service.
