About the position

The Content Writer at the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation will play a crucial role in enhancing the organization's national visibility through compelling storytelling and effective communication. This position involves creating diverse written content that highlights the social and economic impact of Levitt programs, while also supporting the foundation's mission to build community through music. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and resourceful researcher, capable of engaging various target audiences through high-quality written communications.

Responsibilities

  • Share the social and economic impact of Levitt programs through various content formats.
  • Generate ideas and write content for blogs, eblasts, web content, and marketing materials.
  • Write, edit, and proofread blog posts weekly.
  • Cultivate sources within the Levitt network to generate unique story ideas.
  • Develop content that inspires audiences to embrace the Levitt mission.
  • Stay informed about creative placemaking and arts investments to inspire story ideas.
  • Connect themes across creative content to effectively tell the Levitt story.
  • Differentiate between on- and off-brand messaging in communications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to ensure content accuracy.
  • Manage projects involving story development and social media messaging.
  • Curate multimedia selections to complement written communications.
  • Maintain an up-to-date editorial calendar and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Adhere to high standards of grammar and accuracy in all communications.
  • Travel approximately 2-4 times annually for story coverage.
  • Serve as a Levitt ambassador at events, including concerts and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Genuine passion for writing and expert wordsmith.
  • Critical thinker with sound judgment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior editing and proofreading skills.
  • Creative storyteller with the ability to craft engaging narratives.
  • Commitment to mission-driven work in the arts and community development.
  • Experience writing about music and its societal role.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Comfortable adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Highly motivated and collaborative team player.
  • Working knowledge of multimedia formats and basic photo editing.
  • Experience in video/multimedia journalism is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Wordpress, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite.
