About the position

The Continuing Student Financial Aid Advisor plays a crucial role in counseling veterans about enrollment requirements and ensuring they receive all eligible VA benefits. This position involves maintaining accurate records, assisting with financial aid packaging, and providing support to students navigating the financial aid process. The advisor will work in a hybrid environment, balancing office and remote work, and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while promoting student success.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel veterans on enrollment requirements and benefit-eligible academic programs.
  • Ensure eligible veterans receive all VA benefits to which they are entitled.
  • Submit enrollment updates as required.
  • Assist students with financial aid programs and services.
  • Keep VA informed of the enrollment status of students receiving VA education benefits.
  • Certify only those courses that apply to the student's program.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and VA guidelines governing financial aid.
  • Assist with packaging federal student aid and collection of continuing student financial aid documents.
  • Maintain records of VA students for inspection by DVA or SAA.
  • Ensure records are kept for at least three years following the student's last date of attendance.
  • Assist students in applying for state and VA education benefits and identifying resources for success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years' experience in Title IV aid administration.
  • 1 year of experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to help students understand financial aid program requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in reviewing applications for financial aid.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, email, CampusVue, and VAOnce.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to customer support services.
  • Ability to perform business math computations and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate service delivery methods.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and meet schedules under pressure.
  • Knowledge of financial aid regulatory requirements including Title IV.
