About the position

The Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is a pivotal role designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering disciplines. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals in a hybrid setting, primarily based in Spokane Valley, WA, for the Summer of 2025. The intern will engage in various projects that directly influence the operational efficiency and quality of the manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Spokane Plant Manager, the intern will collaborate with both the Production and Quality departments, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world manufacturing environment. In this role, the intern will be tasked with creating process flows and mapping out existing processes to identify areas for improvement. This includes conducting time studies to analyze workflow efficiency and layout optimization. The intern may also participate in the design and improvement of test equipment, troubleshooting issues, and calibrating machinery. Additionally, responsibilities will encompass inspecting non-conforming materials, both incoming and finished goods, and conducting audits to ensure compliance with quality standards. This internship is not only about learning but also about contributing to the continuous improvement initiatives that drive the company's success.

Responsibilities

  • Create process flows and process mapping.
  • Conduct time studies and layout optimization.
  • Participate in test equipment design and improvement.

  • Inspect non-conforming materials (incoming and finished goods).
  • Conduct audits and test processes.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have completed Sophomore year coursework.
  • Experience with data interpretation and manipulation via MS Excel, specifically creating Pivot Tables and Pareto Charts.
  • Familiarity with AutoCad, Inventor, or SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCad, Inventor, or SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques.
