About the position

The Contract Manager at the Colorado School of Mines Office of Research Administration is responsible for overseeing a team of Contract Administrators and managing research and sponsored agreements. This role serves as a key resource for faculty and acts as a liaison between the university and sponsoring research organizations. The Contract Manager ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, maintains accurate records of research agreements, and provides training and support to faculty regarding the contracting process.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the Contract Administration unit, managing 4-8 Full Time Employees.
  • Evaluate workloads and determine work prioritization based on deadlines and complexity.
  • Ensure accuracy and currency of contract information on the ORA website.
  • Resolve complex administrative or legal questions that arise.
  • Create and maintain policies and procedures for the Contracting unit.
  • Stay informed about current federal regulations and school policies.
  • Assist in maintaining ORA's Research Management software and the School's financial system.
  • Develop contractual training material for ORA staff and campus.
  • Identify issues in sponsored research agreements and present solutions.
  • Review and analyze sponsored research agreements for compliance with regulations.
  • Manage research subcontracts and negotiate terms as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with faculty regarding sponsored research agreements.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff on school policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a relevant degree program.
  • 8 years of research administration experience.
  • 5 years of team management experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated consulting and customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree.
  • Significant contract negotiation experience.
  • Professional competency in application of government & federal regulations, including 2 CFR 200.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal regulations governing sponsored research.
