This program is designed to connect experienced workers aged 55 and older with opportunities to provide scientific, technical, and administrative services that support the USGS mission. The enrollees in this program are not considered employees of USGS or the National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions), which manages the administrative aspects of the ESP. Instead, they work under the direction of USGS, contributing their expertise to various projects and tasks that are meaningful and impactful to the environment and the national economy. The Contract Specialist will play a crucial role in mentoring and guiding both new and existing team members through the intricacies of federal acquisition procedures, ensuring compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). This position is funded for approximately 884 hours, with an expected workload of 17 hours per week. The role is temporary and may be subject to changes based on budgetary considerations and other factors. Enrollees will have the opportunity to engage in project-based work that leverages their extensive experience while also providing a platform for mentoring others in the field. The position requires a background security investigation prior to the start date, and remote work arrangements are available. The Contract Specialist will be responsible for various mentoring duties, including guiding team members on the receipt of purchase requests, market research, solicitation processes, and contract administration. This role is essential for ensuring that the team operates effectively and adheres to established federal guidelines and internal procedures.
