Follow us on LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram. BWXT is currently seeking a Temporary Subcontractor to serve as a Materials Subject Matter Expert. This position will play a pivotal role within our Advanced Technologies team, contributing to various nuclear development projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for creating and managing material property handbooks, which will entail determining temperature-dependent material properties for both design organizations and testing campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to compile existing material property data for metals, ceramics, and composites.
  • Develop, design, and compile material property data into a cohesive and accessible handbook for distribution to design teams.
  • Identify and recommend necessary testing campaigns to address material property gaps.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of four 6 years of experience (TBD) + PhD (10 total).
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.
  • Must be self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance to all codes and standards is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Foundational understanding of thermal and mechanical property testing for inorganic materials (metals, ceramics, composites, etc.) at elevated temperatures.
  • Familiarity with MS Word formatting techniques to present technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Previous experience in writing material property handbooks or technical documentation is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail.
