About the position

The Control & Automation Engineer IV at Hargrove Engineers & Constructors is responsible for leading and executing the design of Controls & Automation engineering assignments. This role involves mentoring junior engineers, providing technical guidance, and ensuring the successful implementation of automation projects. The engineer will work under general supervision, collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete design of Controls & Automation engineering assignments.
  • Operate as the technical lead on projects and mentor younger engineers.
  • Utilize department standards and policies in project tasks.
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.
  • Coordinate work activities with other staff members and C&A Office Leaders.
  • Produce estimate level automation system architecture designs and bill of material generation.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies for engineering tasks.
  • Design control systems with an emphasis on maintenance and client expectations.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines for project completion.
  • Review vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for Controls & Automation input.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data and retrieve existing control system configurations.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to complex designs.
  • Estimate and schedule professional service hours for control system programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant industrial experience in controls and automation engineering.
  • Experience in design, implementation, testing, deployment, and startup of automation projects.
  • Ability to implement ISA S88 programming standards and IEC 61131 programming languages.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate controls hardware installation documents.
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, HMI, or SIS systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with command line computer interfaces.
  • Experience with Windows Domains and Active Directory.
  • Experience with creating and deploying Virtual Machines.
  • Knowledge of Modbus protocols and Ethernet/LAN/WAN systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD or Microstation.
