About the position

Chewy is seeking a passionate and self-starting Control Systems Engineer (CSE) for its fulfillment center in Reno, NV. This role combines the skills of an industrial technician with engineering expertise, focusing on automation and controls troubleshooting. The CSE will play a critical role in enhancing equipment reliability and operational performance while contributing to a safety-driven culture. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced automation systems and develop valuable skills in the e-commerce fulfillment sector.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and solve complex automation equipment challenges to provide effective control system solutions.
  • Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC controllers and industrial networks.
  • Partner with FC Operations leadership, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to complete root cause analysis and coordinate solution implementation.
  • Observe MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues.
  • Act as first level issue support for the Facilities Techs/Leads, solving issues locally and remotely.
  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or Automation and Engineering Leadership for support.
  • Apply FC network support resources for mentorship and assistance, and assist peers as needed.
  • Train and mentor new technicians in operational procedures and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability within an industrial controls environment including PLC programming and communication networks.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation Software, Allen-Bradley RS Logix PLC software.
  • Experience with conveyors and sorter systems, with a detailed understanding of fulfillment center process flow.
  • Electrical knowledge of 24v AC/DC control circuits and ability to wire and operate a 3-phase motor.
  • Proven use of digital multimeter and functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing schematics, as well as mechanical and architectural drawings.
  • Experience with conveyor mechanical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, and automated equipment.
  • Experience with networked VFDs (EtherNet, DeviceNet).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other Autodesk software.
