About the position

Chewy is seeking a passionate and self-starting Control Systems Engineer (CSE) for its fulfillment center in Reno, NV. This role combines the skills of an industrial technician with engineering expertise, focusing on automation and controls troubleshooting. The CSE will play a critical role in enhancing equipment reliability and operational performance while contributing to a safety-driven culture in a fast-paced environment. The position offers opportunities to develop valuable skills in the growing field of e-commerce fulfillment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and address sophisticated automation equipment challenges to provide effective control system solutions.
  • Understand, maintain, and address material handling control systems, including PLC controllers and industrial networks.
  • Partner with FC Operations leadership, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to complete root cause analysis and coordinate solution implementation.
  • Act as the technical consultant for Automation and Control projects inside the building.
  • Observe MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues.
  • Act as first level issue support for the Facilities Techs/Leads, solving issues locally and remotely.
  • Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or Automation and Engineering Leadership.
  • Apply FC network support resources for mentorship and assistance, and assist peers as needed.
  • Train and mentor new technicians in operational procedures and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Proven track record within an industrial controls environment including PLC programming, I/O, communication networks, and AC/DC systems.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation Software, Allen-Bradley RS Logix PLC software.
  • Familiarity with conveyors, mechanical systems, and sorter systems in fulfillment centers.
  • Electrical knowledge of 24v AC/DC control circuits and ability to wire and operate a 3-phase motor.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing schematics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electrical theory, robotics, and controls components.
  • Familiarity with networked VFDs (EtherNet, DeviceNet).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other Autodesk software.
