About the position

The Control Systems Engineer at Entegris will play a crucial role in the New Product Development team, focusing on designing, developing, installing, and managing control systems for key process equipment in the semiconductor industry. This position requires collaboration with various engineering disciplines and suppliers to ensure the successful implementation and operation of chemical delivery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Become an automation subject-matter-expert (SME) for scale-up and release of new chemical-delivery systems to high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Create PLC and HMI code based on end-user requirements as defined in IO sheets, sequence charts, alarms/interlock charts, P&IDs, and control panel electrical schematics.
  • Support mechanical, field service, and systems engineers in use and troubleshooting of controller equipment, including sensors, transmitters, remote IO, analog scales, temperature controllers, overlimit controllers, and other microcontrollers.
  • Identify and execute CIP opportunities to improve process automation hardware and software for solid and liquid delivery systems.
  • Supervise operators and maintenance workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Troubleshoot NPD control panel hardware, IO, and electrical equipment, executing the necessary adjustments to bring equipment up to running status.
  • Make programming changes online for retrofitting or upgrading equipment.
  • Coordinate project timelines with NPD management.
  • Quote components and order parts directly with outside vendors.
  • Work safely and drive process improvements.
  • Listen actively and solve problems in a structured manner.
  • Manage change through cross-functional partnering in a global environment.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree, trade school diploma, or apprenticeship program, specializing in Programming and Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5+ years' experience in PLC/HMI control systems design and implementation.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in a hands-on automation/control environment.
  • 2-5+ years of experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Human/Machine Interfaces (HMIs) using Allen Bradley software.
  • Understanding of electrical controllers (PLC/PAC), including how to read/write/edit logic using IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder, FBD, Structured Text, SFC).
  • Experience with industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus, Serial).
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical panels and interpret electrical & pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to use multimeter and other test equipment to troubleshoot PLC and automation problems including electronic troubleshooting at component level.
  • Familiarity with equipment design codes including NEC & NFPA 79 & international electrical standards.
  • Experience selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and servo systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in sensor selection / integration and operation.
  • Capable of setting up remote I/O, Ethernet, & EtherCAT networks as well as other electronic controls equipment.
  • Aptitude to read drawings, reference manuals & instruction guides.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
