About the position

We are seeking a Controller for a leading commercial construction contractor located in Peoria, Arizona. This position offers a competitive salary range of $100K to $130K and presents an exciting opportunity to work closely with the CEO on a daily basis. The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial functions, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. This role is critical in managing the monthly close process, billing clients, handling accounts receivable and payable, preparing budgets, and overseeing quarterly tax projections and annual tax return preparations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting and will be responsible for implementing processes that enhance financial performance and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Controller will be tasked with implementing a process to record transactions by department, comparing incurred costs to budget, and conducting performance analysis of profit centers. This includes reviewing and recording journal entries, overseeing the monthly accounting close process, and preparing monthly financial statements along with year-to-date cash flow reports. The role also requires gaining proficiency in the company’s ERP/MRP software and supporting the implementation of new technology and automation to improve efficiency. In addition, the Controller will assist in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures related to invoice processing, cash management, and fee calculations. The position demands a thorough analytical review of asset operations from various financial perspectives, ensuring that all financial information is produced accurately and on time. The Controller will play a key role in maintaining compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, thereby safeguarding the financial integrity of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a process to record transactions by department and compare costs incurred to budget and performance analysis of profit centers
  • Review and record journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
  • Oversee the monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, year-to-date cash flow, and related footnotes
  • Gain proficiency in the company ERP/MRP software and support the implementation of new technology and automation
  • Assist in the implementation of corporate policies and procedures such as invoice processing and cash management
  • Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Produce accurate and timely financial information
  • Conduct proper analytical review of asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow perspective

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting and financial processes
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license preferred
  • Experience working in the manufacturing industries or building products
  • Ability to prioritize and work with multiple supervisors including CFO and CEO
  • Good GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
  • Able to analyze, organize, summarize, and articulate complex legal and financial information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP software
