About the position

This position collaborates with senior leaders to influence the financial direction of the organization and manages the professional development of the finance team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and team leadership, ready to drive improvements and enhance the company's financial health and operational success. The Controller will manage timely and accurate financial and management reporting, including the consolidation of financial statements, ensuring the general ledger is accurate and complete, compliant with US GAAP. This role also directs the preparation of weekly cash forecasts and supports the annual and multi-year budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term capital planning processes. The Controller will develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting data to evaluate the company's operating results in terms of profitability, budget adherence, and other critical financial health indicators. They will serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors to facilitate timely and effective audits and assist in establishing KPI benchmarks across all company areas. The role includes hiring, training, and evaluating department personnel, ensuring alignment with company objectives, and administering necessary corrective actions. In addition, the Controller will oversee and manage the professional development and productivity of staff, ensuring that training and project expectations are met. They will ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax laws, payroll requirements, and ERISA regulations, managing related payments and advising on operational adjustments due to tax law changes. The position also involves evaluating, monitoring, and adjusting financial controls within the organization to maintain effectiveness, representing the CFO at designated meetings, and developing robust financial policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and regulatory standards. The Controller will actively engage with field operations and leadership, supporting periodic KPI reviews and strategic discussions during regular line management meetings. They will evaluate and implement updates to current financial systems as needed and spearhead the adoption and optimization of new financial software and systems to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. Additionally, the role includes monitoring and analyzing financial performance, implementing performance metrics that align financial strategies with operational goals, and providing actionable insights to senior management. The Controller will also manage key sustainability reporting and integrate sustainability into financial strategies and practices, identifying and implementing cost reduction strategies across the organization while maintaining safety and compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the professional development and productivity of staff.

  • Evaluate and implement updates to current financial systems as needed.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, implementing performance metrics.
  • Manage key sustainability reporting and integrate sustainability into financial strategies.

  • Maintain safety and compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required (MBA and/or CPA preferred).
  • Five to seven years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, and planning with increasing responsibilities.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Expert in standard software applications, including Windows and MS Office Suite.
  • Thorough understanding of financial reporting packages.
  • Proven success in problem-solving and supporting business growth within teams.
  • Ability to work independently at a fast pace and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with insurance programs such as workers' compensation, general liability, and auto insurance.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing consolidated financial statements.
  • Experience in developing internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations.
