About the position

Cordia Resources is collaborating with a growing government contractor based in San Diego, CA, to find a Controller for a direct hire position. This role is crucial for managing the financial operations of the company, which is backed by private equity and has a strong presence in the Department of Defense (DoD) technology solutions sector. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in government contracting, particularly with a solid understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). The Controller will oversee a team of 3-4 finance professionals and will be responsible for enhancing existing processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness within the finance department. The position offers a collaborative and supportive work environment, with a strong senior leadership team and numerous opportunities for professional growth. The company is currently transitioning from QuickBooks to more advanced financial management systems such as Unanet, Costpoint, or NetSuite, which will eventually allow for greater flexibility in remote work arrangements. The Controller will report directly to the President of the company and the VP Controller of the parent company, ensuring alignment with corporate financial strategies and compliance requirements. In this role, the Controller will be responsible for a wide range of financial activities, including financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls and compliance, cash flow management, and global payroll processing. The successful candidate will also lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. This position is based in San Diego, CA, and relocation assistance will be provided for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control systems to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and optimize liquidity.
  • Support the Finance Team in developing and implementing financial strategies, goals, and initiatives.
  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for both domestic and international employees.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • Five years of previous experience in a finance management role within the DoD industry, with a strong focus on compliance and DCAA Requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of DCMA and DCAA regulations and compliance requirements related to cost accounting, indirect rates, contractual audits, and incurred cost submissions.
  • Knowledge of government accounting standards, including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards (e.g., GAAP), internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Cost-Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF) and Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contracts.
  • Proficiency in financial management software such as QuickBooks and ERP systems such as Unanet or comparable systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing finance teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current active or prior security clearance within the Department of Defense is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) and relevant certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) are highly desirable.
  • Experience in a Big 4/Public/Corporate mix is preferred but not required.
