About the position

EvergreenHealth is seeking a Controller to oversee and direct the Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions within the Accounting Department. This role is crucial in ensuring the proper accounting of all financial transactions, as well as accumulating, recording, analyzing, and reporting financial information to management. The Controller will provide necessary financial reports to external reporting agencies and initiate strategies and goals within the department to ensure that these functions are integrated effectively. The aim is to achieve the highest standards in program quality, productivity, patient satisfaction, and financial management. The Controller will also set policies and procedures to ensure internal controls within the department. In this position, the Controller will oversee financial services, including general accounting, accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll functions, in support of the functional and strategic goals of the organization. A primary responsibility will be to ensure financial controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting standards. The Controller will be responsible for the timely presentation of accurate monthly financial and statistical reports, ensuring that all reports are sufficiently reviewed by the Director of Financial Reporting and Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, the Controller will serve as the primary contact and coordinator for all agencies that perform financial audits, providing direct support to financial planning for budget and responsibility reporting. The Controller will organize and plan the overall workflow of the accounting department, which includes the general ledger, financial reports, auditing, payroll, and accounts payable, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the department and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the financial services including general accounting, accounts payable, fixed assets and payroll functions in support of the functional and strategic goals of the organization.
  • Primary responsibility for financial controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Responsible for the timely presentation of accurate monthly financial and statistical reports including sufficient review of all reports by the Director of Financial Reporting and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Serves as the primary contact and coordinator for all agencies who perform financial audits.
  • Provides direct support to financial planning for budget and responsibility reporting.
  • Organizes and plans the overall workflow of the accounting department which includes the general ledger, financial reports, auditing, payroll, and accounts payable.
  • Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a business-related area.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) including 3 years of healthcare auditing experience in a large accounting firm.
  • 5 years in leading the accounting functions in a large hospital system including application of accounting procedures in an EPIC Billing environment.
  • Previous work with financial information systems (i.e., general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets experience).
  • Analytical skills necessary to implement, maintain and enhance financial systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in healthcare management or accounting.
  • Experience in a shared service accounting department for hospital, medical group, and related healthcare organizations.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets and payroll systems.
