About the position

The Controller/Accountant/CPA position is responsible for managing financial operations for retail and wholesale gasoline stations, including preparing financial statements, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. The role requires extensive experience in accounting, particularly in the petroleum industry, and proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software. The candidate will work in-person at the office in Canyon Country, CA, and will be expected to handle various financial tasks with precision and organization.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements quarterly
• Manage payroll processes
• Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Perform bank reconciliations
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting
• Prepare and analyze financial reports
• Complete monthly and quarterly sales tax returns
• Conduct credit card reconciliations
• Maintain general ledgers and journal entries
• Ensure compliance with IRS regulations for fuel excise tax returns
• Research industry regulations and upcoming laws
• Correspond with vendors and customers regarding billing and payments
• Verify vendor bills and manage in-house balances

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university
• Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting or finance
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks Online
• Ability to work independently
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills in English
