The Controller/Accounting Manager position at Nelnet Renewable Energy is integral in supporting the accounting functions across all Nelnet Renewable Energy, including accounting for construction of solar assets for third parties and internally owned assets, various renewable energy investments, and operational accounting of long-term solar assets. This role will aid in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the financial records, plans, metrics, and policies of the Nelnet Energy Services organization, including fiscal controls, preparation, and interpretation of financial reports, and safeguarding the organization's assets. The Controller will report directly to the NRE CFO and will partner with all leaders of NRE to ensure the success of the company. The Controller will develop and maintain overall accounting policies and controls while assisting in long-range planning and advising management on financial affairs. The position requires a strong understanding of financial statement review, analysis, and consolidation, as well as the application of internal controls over all accounting functions. The Controller will lead, train, retain, and develop staff, providing feedback to the leadership team regarding key performance indicators. This role involves leading monthly revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, partnering with operations, estimating, and finance on operational and financial improvements, and leading the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecast updates. The Controller will also perform reviews of journal entries, reconcile complex accounts, and ensure compliance with federal regulations and departmental policies. Responsibilities

  • Assist with financial statement review, analysis, description, and distribution, and consolidation of financial statements.
  • Application of internal controls over all accounting functions.
  • Lead, train, retain and develop staff.
  • Provide feedback to the leadership team regarding key performance indicators (leading indicators).
  • Lead monthly revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 by partnering with operations, estimating and finance.
  • Partner with operations, estimating, and business development on operational and financial improvements and associated reporting.
  • Partner with procurement on improvement of processes and policies.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecast updates.
  • Perform review of journal entries, analysis, and reporting related to complex GAAP accounting transactions.
  • Apply results of research to the Company's operations and/or specific transactions.
  • Reconcile complex accounts, extensive research, advanced problem solving, and resolution within corporate standards.
  • Assist with various accounting projects and report on performance.
  • Manage expectations through consistent and timely updates.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal regulations and departmental policies.
  • Analyze long-term impacts and plans accordingly.
  • Work with external organizations and internal departments on project initiatives and various accounting issues.
  • Lead and participate in the financial perspective of multiple renewable energy investments and projects.

Requirements

  • 4 year college degree preferred, advanced degree or CPA preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience preferably mostly in the A/E/C field, 3+ years supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience in revenue recognition on construction or engineering contracts in accordance with ASC 606.
