About the position

The Controller will manage the organization's accounting functions, including overseeing Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), contracts, and financial reporting. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with regulations, and the establishment of internal controls and budgets. The Controller will also coordinate financial audits and maintain internal financial software systems, providing leadership and strategic financial guidance across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting activities, including A/P, A/R, billing, and fixed assets.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, offering coaching and professional development.
  • Oversee the monthly close process and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Prepare internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze financial data to assist management with business decisions.
  • Oversee grant and contract accounting, providing financial support for grant requests.
  • Coordinate financial audits and tax return preparations.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Manage cash transactions and bank accounts.
  • Serve as the internal lead for financial software and reporting needs.
  • Assist in budgeting processes and provide financial reporting to senior leadership.
  • Handle ad hoc projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or Controller.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, GAAP, and budget management.
  • Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Sage 100, and financial report generation.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in non-profit accounting and knowledge of grants or government contracts preferred.
  • Experience with financial software systems implementation is a plus.
