About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the financial operations of a new homeowners insurance carrier, focusing on strategic planning, capital management, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. This role is crucial for driving financial performance and supporting long-term growth initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company's growth objectives and operational goals.
  • Manage financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to ensure profitability and sustainable growth.
  • Manage reinsurance accounting to protect the company's financial position and support underwriting goals.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas state insurance regulations, including financial and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit annual and quarterly filings in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee risk assessment, reinsurance agreements, and capital allocation to maintain financial stability.
  • Build, mentor, and lead the finance team, including controllers and other financial personnel.
  • Collaborate with investors and other stakeholders to provide transparent financial reports and projections.
  • Partner with other executives to streamline financial processes and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, reports, and analyses to the board of directors and investors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in finance roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge of P&C insurance, reinsurance programs, and Texas insurance regulations.
  • Expertise in statutory accounting principles (SAP) and preparing annual and quarterly regulatory filings.
  • Proven experience in capital management, budgeting, and risk assessment.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills for engaging with stakeholders and investors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in startup environments and lead during periods of growth and change.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
