About the position

The Controller/Chief Financial Officer at Wiens Ranch is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a diverse portfolio of businesses, including ranch management and product distribution. This role is crucial for ensuring financial accuracy, implementing growth strategies, and supporting the overall business objectives of the ranch.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of financial accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for all Wiens business entities.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to guide strategic decision-making for ranch operations, beef sales, and other business ventures.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of taxes, ensuring compliance with all regulations and deadlines.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and cost management for beef, hay production, and other product lines.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard the company's assets and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Manage audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure smooth and successful audits.
  • Assist in developing long-term financial strategies, including projection models and financial risk management.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team and other staff involved in financial processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA certification is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in an agricultural or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, tax regulations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.
  • Experience in inventory management, cost control, and budgeting preferred.
