About the position

The Controller position at a rapidly growing construction company in Phoenix, AZ, is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and implementing accounting policies. This role involves managing budgets, preparing financial statements, and leading the accounting team to maintain financial health and accountability within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures
• Monitor and adhere to regulatory compliance, including taxes and reporting
• Oversee financial operations including AP/AR, Job Costing, Budgets, and Cash Flow Management
• Create annual budget and hold team accountable to the budget
• Prepare financial statements and all supporting schedules (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, Work in Progress Statement, etc.)
• Monthly closing of books
• Review various contracts
• Prepare construction payment applications and other invoices as required by contracts
• Track costs and expenses for each construction project, ensuring that costs are within budget
• Train accounting staff
• Prepare all necessary reconciliations and support documentation for exterior auditors
• File monthly sales tax reports for various states when required
• Comply with all applicable regulations, including tax laws and securities laws
• Provide weekly updates on company health and quarterly communication with leaders regarding goals and expectations, and communicate effectively with CPA

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• 5-10 years of accounting experience
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• CPA certification preferred
