About the position

A venture capital firm is seeking a Controller/Finance Associate located in New York City to play a pivotal role in the accounting, tax, treasury, and financial reporting functions for the firm and its several venture capital funds. This position will involve close collaboration with the CFO to manage the quarterly financial reporting of the funds, ensuring compliance with applicable agreements, GAAP, and regulatory requirements. The Controller/Finance Associate will oversee the work of the fund administrator and maintain shadow books to ensure timely and accurate expense allocations, reconciliations, and fund reporting on a quarterly basis. In addition to financial reporting, the role will drive treasury functions including banking and wire transfers, capital call planning, and distribution execution in coordination with the CFO and fund administrator. The successful candidate will work with the CFO and investment team to ensure timely deal fundings, which includes leading wire transfer call back verification and initiation of deal wires. The position also requires proactive assistance with the documentation of new portfolio company investments and the ongoing documentation and valuations of existing portfolio companies in accordance with relevant valuation guidelines and ASC 820. The Controller/Finance Associate will assist with the preparation of presentations, ad hoc reporting/projects, and diligence materials in a timely manner. Compliance with operations regarding expense allocation policies, valuation policies, and LPA compliance is essential. The role will also involve ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, leading efforts in continuous improvement for the accounting function, and performing the accounts payable function to ensure timely payment of invoices, appropriate expense classification, and timely settlements of receivables. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the CFO to manage the quarterly financial reporting of the funds to ensure compliance with applicable agreements, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of venture experience in accounting/finance at public accounting firm or venture capital/private equity firm.
• Understanding of investment company and partnership accounting and tax issues.
• Excellent analytical, accounting, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with complex valuation models and distribution waterfalls.
• High proficiency in creating, maintaining, and manipulating financial spreadsheets with ability to quickly set up financial models, ad-hoc calculations, and utilize formulas to manage large sets of data efficiently.
