About the position

The firm seeks a well-organized, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and collaborative individual to join our team as a full-time Controller/Finance Director. As the senior financial manager of the firm and part of the Operations group, you will work closely with the firm principals and project managers. You will be responsible for all daily and monthly accounting duties. The firm uses Deltek Vantagepoint for accounting and project management. In this role, you will produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, analyze them, and report out to leadership. You will lead the senior team in developing budgets, tracking, and forecasting. Managing cash flow planning and maintenance of the general ledger will be a key responsibility. You will supervise and perform daily transactional accounting tasks, including cash management and Accounts Payable. Additionally, you will be responsible for drafting and finalizing monthly client billings and collaborating with Principals on Accounts Receivable and collections. As a Controller/Finance Director, you will supervise the staff accountant and other accounting team resources, coordinate payroll-related matters with Human Resources, and reconcile accounts including bank, credit card, A/R, A/P, and work in progress. You will also coordinate and oversee the external financial statement review and tax planning process with external CPA, as well as manage outside professional resources related to ESOP and insurance. Ensuring compliance with federal, local, and state government reporting requirements and tax filings will be part of your duties. You will serve as a key Vantagepoint firm-wide resource for other team members and oversee the project setup and closeout process. Keeping the firm's accounting and business processes updated to GAAP standards, ensuring efficiency, internal control, and safeguarding of digital financial records will be essential.

Responsibilities

  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, analyze, and report out to leadership
  • Lead senior team in developing budgets, tracking and forecasting

  • Supervise (& perform as needed) daily transactional accounting tasks including cash, Accounts Payable
  • Responsible for drafting and finalizing monthly client billings, and work with Principals on Accounts Receivable and collections
  • Supervise staff accountant and other accounting team resources
  • Coordinate payroll related matters with Human Resources
  • Reconcile accounts including bank, credit card, A/R, A/P, and work in progress
  • Coordinate and oversee the external financial statement review and tax planning process with external CPA
  • Coordinate and oversee outside professional resources related to ESOP and insurance
  • Oversee meeting of federal, local, and state government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Serve as key Vantagepoint firm wide resource for other team members
  • Oversee project set up and project close out process
  • Keep firm's accounting and business process and procedures updated to GAAP standards, ensuring efficiency, internal control, and safeguarding of digital financial records.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a controller with 7+ years of accounting and finance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
  • Experience with generating budgets and forecasts
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate (written & verbal) financial topics to management and senior staff
  • Well-versed in managing client billing & invoices, outside consultant costs, payroll, bank reconciliation, and cash flow planning
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, along with the ability to investigate and problem solve
  • Ability to operate independently with a sense of urgency & collaborate effectively
  • Knowledge of project accounting & timekeeping is important
  • Previous experience at AEC firm is required
  • Experience with systems such as Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision, Unanet, Core or Ajera is preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, vendors, other departments, and senior management
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Mentor project managers on 'Best Project Management Practices'
