About the position

The Controller - Financial Services Accounting Manager at Shoreline Community College is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the college's accounting and financial operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting budgeting, financial planning, and risk management. The Controller will lead a team to deliver accurate financial data and foster a culture of transparency, aligning with the college's Equity-Centered Strategic Plan. The position also involves managing the college's integrated PeopleSoft database and ensuring effective internal controls and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the timely preparation and submission of financial reports and statements in compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations.
  • Supervise and manage day-to-day financial and accounting operations, including accounts receivable and general ledgers.
  • Monitor and manage the treasury function, including daily cash requirements and investments.
  • Serve as auditor point-of-contact to coordinate and facilitate audits and implement recommendations.
  • Interpret regulations and implement policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Design and implement internal control measures to safeguard college assets.
  • Provide financial analyses, risk assessments, and specialized reporting to support decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to strategic planning by evaluating financial implications and resource allocation.
  • Hire, lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of college policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Public Administration with at least 15 credits in accounting-related subjects or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in managing financial or accounting operations.
  • Three or more years of experience managing and developing accounting staff.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and internal auditing procedures.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, GASB, and relevant financial standards.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting software, such as PeopleSoft.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial analysis and budgeting variance analysis.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across diverse groups.
