About the position

The Controller position is a critical role within the financial management and accounting sector, primarily focused on executing agency-wide financial oversight and initiatives. This hybrid opportunity offers flexibility while ensuring the integrity of internal controls and providing valuable input to program services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and identify training needs for finance and other departmental staff
  • Ensure compliance with filing deadlines for various federal filings
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures and implement controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports in compliance with accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
  • Perform bank and other account reconciliations
  • Prepare and maintain journal entries, reviewing for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness
  • Regularly review and ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial data and records
  • Recommend benchmarks and develop agency dashboards used to measure the company's performance
  • Produce the annual budget and forecasts, reporting significant budget differences to management
  • Provide financial analysis with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Work in conjunction with external auditors providing necessary information for the annual audit
  • Participate in cross-training for other positions' duties within the finance department and perform these functions as needed
  • Serve on the Management Team to guide the organization's goals and initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting specifically in the nonprofit industry
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems
  • Experience with ADP - Financial Services
  • Knowledgeable in a broad range of accounting functions
  • Proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Experience in auditing processes and principles
  • Familiarity with budget processes
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • CPA certification is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
