About the position

ICS, a Legence company, is seeking a Controller to join our team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a solutions-based consulting firm, we specialize in planning and project-related solutions, and we are committed to the success and wellbeing of our employees, clients, and communities. The Controller will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity of our operations and will be responsible for overseeing the accounting functions of the division. This position requires a strong construction and engineering accounting background, as well as the ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively across all company functions. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and driven by deadlines, with a focus on accuracy and results. They will be responsible for implementing efficient policies and procedures, ensuring proper internal controls, and managing the month-end close process. The Controller will also oversee the construction project accounting process, including the preparation and analysis of month-end reporting, project forecasting, and audit support. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities, as well as the ability to manage a small team of accounting professionals. In addition to financial reporting and transaction processing, the Controller will maintain KPI dashboards and lead various operational and financial analyses. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, a CPA certification, and at least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry. Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606, as well as proficiency in MS Office and accounting software, is essential. Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient policies and procedures and proper internal controls are in place.
  • Responsible for month-end close process and coordinate the closing of the division's accounting books.
  • Report financial results in conformity with GAAP and corporate accounting policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective Percentage of Completion forecast capability.
  • Oversee the construction project accounting process from start to finish.
  • Prepare and analyze month-end reporting including WIP report, gross margin, revenue recognition, and forecast adjustments.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate data on jobs and cost accounting.
  • Partner with external auditors to support annual audit procedures and provide accurate documentation.
  • Manage/Supervise AR, AP, Job Costing, General Ledger, Contracts Management, and Purchasing.
  • Maintain KPI dashboards and steer monthly analytical processes to assess operational and financial performance.
  • Review expense projections and provide recommendations regarding cost reduction and resource redeployment.
  • Support annual planning cycle, including preparation and consolidation of budget requests across businesses.
  • Lead various operational and financial analyses and prepare ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Aid in the implementation of new ERP and additional software tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  • 7+ years' progressive accounting experience in public accounting or corporate accounting.
  • Construction industry experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant required.
  • Firm knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and understanding of percentage completion accounting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively with accounting team, management, project managers, and external auditors.
  • Produce accurate and timely accounting reports.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Great analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, adaptable to fast-paced environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE ideal; IFS or OneStream a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in developing teams using strong leadership and talent development strategies.
