About the position

Our client, a leading distributor in New Haven, CT, is seeking a seasoned accounting professional to join their team as a Consultant overseeing financial operations. This position comes in the wake of a recent acquisition, necessitating a strong leader to guide the accounting department through this transition. The ideal candidate will have a passion for financial excellence and a proven track record in managing financial operations effectively. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, preparing and analyzing financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. You will ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, and conduct financial analysis to support business decision-making. Additionally, you will implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and coordinate both internal and external audits. As a leader, you will mentor and guide the accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the department. Collaboration with senior management will be key as you develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s goals. Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves
