About the position

The Controller - Logistics is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within a logistics operation. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, supports decision-making, and improves financial performance through effective management of accounting processes and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting processes: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings, ensuring accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare and present financial reports (income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements).
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including prepaids, accruals, and fixed assets.
  • Develop cost accounting practices for tracking transportation, warehousing, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to protect assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Track and analyze KPIs for logistics, such as transportation and warehousing costs.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting, providing insights on financial performance and variance analysis.
  • Manage cash flow, monitor working capital, and oversee credit and collections.
  • Review and approve expenses, invoices, and capital expenditures to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate and support annual audits by preparing necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to provide financial guidance on cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or participate in special projects to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Experience as a Controller in the logistics, transportation, or supply chain industry.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting and logistics financial metrics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (preferably in a logistics environment).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP/IFRS and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively across departments.
