About the position

The Controller position in Miami, FL, is a critical role within a reputable commercial construction firm, focusing on financial management and reporting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the commercial construction sector, demonstrating proficiency in financial management, cost control, and accounting practices. This role requires a strong background in implementing efficient financial systems and procedures, ensuring that the company maintains its financial health and compliance with industry standards. As a Controller, you will be responsible for preparing and overseeing financial statements, developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans. You will monitor financial performance, providing variance analysis to ensure that the company remains on track with its financial goals. Additionally, you will manage accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger, ensuring accurate financial transaction recording in QuickBooks and Procore. Reconciliation of bank statements and inter-company accounts will also fall under your purview. In terms of project cost control, you will implement systems to track project expenses, review project cost reports, and address any cost overruns. Ensuring accurate job costing and expense allocation is essential to this role. Compliance and audit responsibilities include ensuring GAAP compliance and preparing for audits, as well as maintaining and updating internal control policies. You will also oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems, specifically QuickBooks and Procore, and provide training to staff on the use of these financial software tools. Conducting financial analysis to support decision-making and providing financial insights and recommendations will be key components of your role. You will develop financial models for various business scenarios to aid in strategic planning. As a leader, you will mentor accounting professionals and collaborate with project managers and other departments to facilitate financial meetings and reporting. Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA/CMA preferred.
  • 8+ years in accounting/financial management in commercial construction.
  • Proven QuickBooks and Procore experience.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Procore, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • High accuracy in financial reporting and ability to manage multiple tasks.
