About the position

MWVCAA is searching for a talented Controller with a proven performance track record and experience with federal grants and grant accounting. The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting activities, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial operations. This role is critical in supporting the CFO and the Agency's Leadership by providing accurate financial data, analysis, and strategic insights. The Controller will manage the accounting team, ensuring compliance with all financial policies and procedures, and will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. We are looking for a driven performer that understands the complexities of grants accounting and the accountability of federal grant funding and consistently delivers quality work product. Compassion and empathy for those people in the world that are suffering in poverty and need a helping hand or a warm place to sleep are essential. The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and detail orientation that will ensure our compliance with grant funder requirements, ensuring renewal of grant funding. As a leader, problem solver, and coach, the Controller will consistently show up and support a motivated, talented accounting team. Emotional intelligence is crucial for navigating the pace of service delivery while bringing others along. The pay range for this position is $90,000 to $95,000 annually, depending on experience. Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial and accounting activities, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial operations.
  • Manage the accounting team, ensuring compliance with all financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of GAAP, OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, and cost principles of agency grant agreements and awards.
  • Supervise accounting staff and ensure adequacy of agency internal controls and procedures related to grant activity, accounting, and reporting.
  • Organize, plan, prepare, and oversee all tasks related to month and year-end accounting and reporting, including audits and preparation of data for financial statements.
  • Develop and implement agency accounting policies and procedures, ensuring accuracy and control of data and expenditure of funds.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors to prepare grant budgets and monitor grant budget performance.
  • Prepare analyses to evaluate risk and make evidence-based suggestions for agency action.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Prior experience with nonprofit accounting, grant management, and Federal grant requirements is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards.
  • Public accounting experience is desired.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Valid driver license and insured vehicle available for use on the job with an acceptable driving record for the past 3 years.
